Tatiana Calderón has her sights trained on a return to the podium when she returns to Euroformula Open action for this weekend’s two races at Jerez, Spain.
Having made her first Euroformula Open appearance for the RP Motorsport team during September’s Red Bull Ring round, the Colombian returns to the F3-based series for the final two events of the season at Jerez and Barcelona eager to reproduce the strong form she showed in Austria.
Despite having to contend with a four-place grid penalty for having already raced at the Red Bull Ring in GP3 earlier in the year, Tatiana turned heads in the first Spielberg race as she charged to third place, a result she backed up with a strong run to fifth in the second encounter of the weekend.
Although the 23-year-old hasn’t raced at the 4.428-km Jerez circuit since 2011, she tested there during Euroformula Open’s ‘Winter Series’ event back in February, setting the third fastest time – giving her confidence that she can take the fight to the championship’s established frontrunners once again this weekend and claim some more silverware after her Austria success.
Tatiana Calderón: “It’s been a little while since my last races in Malaysia, so I’m looking forward to getting back in the driving seat this weekend at Jerez – especially as I scored some good results at the Red Bull Ring, even with the penalty in race one. Jerez is a track I love, I was quick there during winter testing, and I feel really comfortable with the RP Motorsport team. The aim for the weekend is to be in the top three, and hopefully I can make a few more visits to the podium both here and at Barcelona.”
