Tatiana Calderón will commence her assault on the 2016 Euroformula Open championship when the season gets under way this weekend at the Estoril circuit in Portugal.
Making her full-time return to a series she last contested in its entirety in 2012, Tatiana’s considerable experience in Formula 3 machinery is sure to make her a regular contender at the front of what is set to be a highly competitive field, as she spearheads the Teo Martin Motorsport team’s four-car line-up.
Already, the 23-year-old has proven herself to be among the series’ protagonists with a series of impressive showings during the winter, finishing inside the top three of February’s Jerez test and clinching a hard-fought podium finish during the first of two non-points paying Winter Series races at Paul Ricard.
Following another positive test session at Barcelona, Tatiana is ready to begin the Euroformula Open season in earnest at the demanding Estoril circuit, where the Bogota native recently took part in a three-day GP3 test session as part of her preparations for her other main programme in 2016.
Indeed, due to clashing commitments in GP3, Tatiana will be forced to miss the private test sessions taking place in Portugal on Thursday, but will arrive on Friday ready to take part in both free practice sessions that precede the weekend’s two races.
Tatiana Calderón: “I’m very much looking forward to the first race of the Euroformula Open season this weekend with Teo Martin Motorsport. We worked really together during the pre-season; we took a podium at Paul Ricard and we were very competitive in the other test sessions. Even though we will miss the first day of practice on Thursday, we will have a lot of valuable information from my teammates to use. Although I tested a GP3 car at Estoril recently, I’ve never driven an F3 car there, so I will have to get used to it quickly. It’s a track that’s hard on tyres, so managing them effectively will be key to the weekend. I’m confident we can come up with a good strategy, and do a good job.”
