Tatiana Calderón returns to GP3 Series action this weekend as she tackles the second round of the Formula 1-supporting championship at the Red Bull Ring.
The series’ visit to the home of the Austrian Grand Prix marks the start of a gruelling run of four rounds in five weekends, and Tatiana arrives well prepared following a successful two-day test at the recently resurfaced 4.326km-track earlier in the month.
There, the Colombian rising star and her Arden International team were able to address some of the problems they encountered during the season opener at Barcelona, as well as fine tune set-up at a track where compromise between straight-line speed and grip in the slower parts of the track is key.
The Red Bull Ring is another venue that has treated Tatiana kindly in previous years, and after a frustrating start to her GP3 career in Spain, the 23-year-old is confident of a strong showing in Austria to kickstart her season and generate momentum to take through a busy month of July.
Tatiana Calderón: “The Red Bull Ring is a circuit where I’ve had good results in the past, and after two productive days of testing I’m confident we can do well here again this weekend. The track has been resurfaced since last year, which always makes it challenging for teams and drivers to adapt to the new grip levels, but I think we managed to do that well in the test. The main problem at Barcelona was with the clutch, but we have devised a new start procedure that worked really well, and we have also adapted the set-up to suit the modifications that have been made to the car since the first round. The car feels like a big improvement compared to before, so I’m really looking forward to going on the attack this weekend and building momentum for the upcoming races.”
