Alfa Romeo Sauber Formula 1 test driver Tatiana Calderón is confident of scoring more GP3 Series points as she returns to action this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.
The Colombian rising star ended the first half of her GP3 campaign with the Jenzer Motorsport team on a high note with a well-earned top-eight finish at the Hungaroring.
And now, after recharging her batteries during F1’s traditional August break, Tatiana is raring to return to the track and prove the progress she and her team have made since the start of the season on her favourite track of all.
The fearsome 7.004km Spa layout, located in the heart of the Ardennes forest in Belgium, is among the most demanding on the GP3 calendar, and has also proven to be a particularly happy hunting ground for Tatiana in her career up to now.
Her fondest memory of the track dates back to 2015, when she famously became the first female driver to lead a FIA European Formula 3 Championship race in mixed conditions, while her best result in three seasons of F3 also came at Spa in 2014.
Now the 25-year-old Bogota native is determined to demonstrate her prowess around the historic Belgian Grand Prix track all over again, with the potential for wet weather opening up more opportunities to shine in front of the watching eyes of the F1 paddock.
Tatiana Calderón: “I’m looking forward to returning to action at Spa this weekend after a three-week break. It’s my favourite track, I’ve done well in the past there in both GP3 and F3, so I feel quite comfortable there. It will be a challenging weekend, because the forecast is for rain, so we need to anticipate the changing conditions. Having scored my first point in Hungary, I’m looking forward to challenging for more points both here and at Monza.”
