TATIANA AIMING TO BOUNCE BACK IN AUSTRIA

Tatiana Calderón heads on to this weekend’s sixth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship season in Austria hoping to rebound from a tough weekend in France.

The Alfa Romeo F1 test driver endured a difficult time last weekend at Paul Ricard, struggling with a baffling lack of speed in her BWT Arden-prepared car around the French Grand Prix venue – where she has registered strong results in the past in lower formulae.

Although the first race yielded an 11th-place finish, Tatiana’s highest to date at this level, it came amid high attrition, as only 12 cars finished a race disrupted by a multi-car pileup and an early red flag. That was followed by 18th in race two after a spin with only a handful of laps remaining.

Fortunately for the Colombian rising star, an opportunity to make amends comes as early as this weekend at one of her favourite venues, the Red Bull Ring, whose stop-start layout poses an altogether different challenge to the flowing curves of Le Castellet as the F2 season closes on its halfway point.

Tatiana Calderón: “Overall it was a difficult weekend in Paul Ricard, I struggled for pace throughout which was very disappointing. We don’t have much time to understand exactly the cause of our lack of speed but it’s a different track this weekend and I hope we can start turning things around. Tyre compounds will also he different, which will hopefully suit the car better as well, and so is the track surface. Also the corners are very different, so hopefully we can have a much more competitive weekend.”
