Calderon vows to attack British F3 encounter at Brands Hatch

Tatiana Calderon vows to attack Rounds 7, 8 and 9 of the 2013 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series on the world-renowed Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit (10-11 August).

The 20-year old lady racer conquered Belgium’s infamous Spa-Francorchamps circuit in the most recent British F3 round a fortnight ago (26-27 July), battling treacherous weather conditions to achieve a brace of top four finishes.

The young Colombian was on course for her first podium in one instance, playing second fiddle to Double R Racing team-mate Antonio Giovanazzi until a couple of small errors cost her track position.

The relentless rollercoaster ride that is the Brands Hatch Indy circuit exposed some deficiencies in Calderon’s physicality earlier this year.

However, the Colombian expects her new-found strength – developed through an intense training regime derived to improve her physical endurance – to counter the challenges of Brands Hatch’s extended 3.9km Grand Prix configuration.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend at Brands Hatch, especially as I’m fairly familiar with the circuit now,” said Calderon. “The British F3 series runs on the longer Brands Hatch GP layout, which is a very challenging track that features many fast corners, like Hawthorns, Westfield, and Dingle Dell.

“I’ve been working hard on mastering fast corners this season and I think Brands Hatch is the perfect place to practice and test myself. But I feel much stronger than ever before and the more I drive the car the fitter I become – no exercise machine can replicate the forces you experience in the cockpit.”

Calderon added: “The competition will be tough so I go into the weekend with no expectations. I’ll just go out there, attack those fast corners and see where we are.”

Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series qualifying is scheduled for 11.15 on Saturday (10 August), with Round 7 later that same day at 14.55.

Rounds 8 and 9 will take place on Sunday (11 August) at 11.00 and 16.50 respectively.
