Calderon shapes up for Zandvoort’s prestigious Masters of F3 event

Tatiana Calderon is in the best shape of her life as she prepares to contest the prestigious RTL Masters of Formula 3 event at Circuit Park Zandvoort in The Netherlands this weekend (5-7 July).

The 4.3km former F1 Grand Prix venue has proudly hosted the Masters of F3 since its inception in 1990. The event is now firmly established as a highlight of the F3 calendar and to win it is a notable achievement.

The world’s fastest F3 racers from the European and British Championships will once again descend upon the seaside resort of Zandvoort for the 23rd running of the Masters of F3 event, following in the wheel-tracks of Lewis Hamilton, Nico Hulkenburg and the like as they vie for the coveted title.

Double R Racing’s Calderon will be among them and, having intensified her training programme in the preceding weeks, she is in the best shape of her life, both physically and mentally.

With improved strength and heightened optimism, the 20-year old Colombian lady racer is desperate to get back behind the wheel at the challenging, technical Dutch track, situated approximately 30km West of Amsterdam.

“I am really looking forward to getting back in my car at Zandvoort after quite a few weeks away,” said Calderon.

“The Masters of F3 event is very important, not only because it has a lot of history associated with it, but because it will be good preparation for the second half of the F3 European Championship season. Of course, having never raced at Zandvoort before, it will be a challenging weekend.

“I will need to adapt to the circuit quickly and have been preparing in the simulator. I have used my free time over the last four weeks to strengthen my neck and forearms; among other things, I have been rock climbing with my trainer and even finished fourth in a 5k running race. I genuinely feel in great shape!”

The weekend will begin with two free practice sessions for the F3 drivers at 12.05 and 17.15 on Friday (5 July), with qualifying scheduled for 11.20 and 15.15 on Saturday (6 July) and the headlining 25-lap RTL Masters of F3 race on Sunday (7 July) at 13.30.
