Tatiana Calderon will continue in her relentless pursuit of pace when she contests the opening round of the 2013 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series at the historic Silverstone circuit this weekend (25-26 May).
The former title-winning Double R Racing team will field three cars for Calderon and her FIA Formula 3 European Championship team-mates Antonio Giovinazzi and Sean Gelael in Silverstone’s British F3 season opener.
Having graduated from New Zealand’s ultra-competitive Toyota Racing Series (TRS) in 2013, Calderon is using this year to acclimatise to European and UK-based circuits, while also striving for the supreme levels of physical endurance required to take modern-day single-seaters to the limits of adhesion over a race distance.
The Colombian lady racer contested rounds of the F3 European Championship at Silverstone earlier this year and is keen to return to the historic Northamptonshire venue to master its fast, flowing confines.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to return to Silverstone,” said Calderon. “I’ve already raced and tested my Double R Racing car there, so I know how challenging it is.
“The circuit has some of the fastest corners I will experience this season and it’s through those high-speed sections that I really need to improve. Of course, the only way to progress is to keep driving them, so I’m trying to get as much track time at possible.”
She added: “I expect the level of competition to be high this weekend, even though there will be fewer cars than on the Euro F3 grid. I never underestimate the competition – there are some really fast guys in the British F3 championship and it will be tough.”
Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series qualifying gets under way from 10.45 on Saturday 25 May, with Round 1 later that same day at 15.10. Rounds 2 and 3 are scheduled to take place from 12.00 and 16.55 respectively on Sunday 26 May.
