Double R Racing’s Tatiana Calderon is managing her own expectations ahead of Rounds 13, 14 and 15 of the 2013 FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Austria’s Red Bull Ring Spielberg this weekend (1-2 June).
The Colombian racer has had a baptism of fire in the opening four rounds of her maiden campaign in the ultra-competitive Euro F3 championship.
Atrocious weather conditions blighted her progress in the opening two rounds and, while she finished as the lead Double R charger at Germany’s Hockenheimring, a frustrating outing at Brands Hatch followed.
The 20-year old heads to Austria for the fifth round of the 2013 season with no prior experience of the Red Bull Ring, therefore this weekend will be treated as an extended test session, as she learns the circuit’s intricacies.
The F3 European Championship will once again run as part of the illustrious support-race bill for the German DTM touring car championship at the spectacular Austrian venue.
Calderon is feeling upbeat following a positive debut in the British F3 International Series at Silverstone last weekend, but went on to say: “This weekend will be tough because the level of competition is so high in the FIA F3 European Championship.
“I have had a lot of track time recently and had a very encouraging weekend contesting Silverstone’s first British F3 round, so I should be nearer to the front-running pace. Of course, I don’t know the Red Bull Ring but I should improve as the weekend progresses and have more experience of the lay-out.”
Rounds 13 and 14 of the ultra-competitive FIA Formula 3 European Championship are scheduled to take place at 11.10 and 16.05 respectively on Saturday 1 June, with Round 15 from 11.00 the following day (Sunday 2 June).
