Double R Racing’s Tatiana Calderon is in a buoyant mood as she heads to Kent’s world-famous Brands Hatch circuit for Rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship (18-19 May).
The Colombian racer has had a baptism of fire in the opening three rounds of her maiden campaign in the ultra-competitive Euro F3 series.
She combated atrocious wet weather conditions in the opening two events at Monza and Silverstone, but most recently finished as the lead Double R Racing charger in two of the three races at Germany’s Hockenheimring (4-5 May).
The F3 European Championship will once again run as part of the illustrious support-race bill for the spectacular German DTM touring car championship at the Kent venue.
Keen to impress, Calderon tested a Formula Renault racer on Brands Hatch’s 1.22-mile Indy configuration and will look to continue on her upward trend when the action resumes on the undulating circuit this weekend.
As a result the 20-year old lady racer is optimistic, if not slightly circumspect, about her prospects, in the knowledge that she is competing in one of the most competitive and uncompromising single-seater arenas in the world.
“I haven’t been overly happy with my recent results, but I have to remember that I’m still in the early stages of my rookie season in a very competitive championship,” said Calderon. “I have a fantastic team behind me and everybody has been working hard since Hockenheim to be in a more competitive position at Brands Hatch – the home circuit for my Double R Racing team.
“I still have a lot to learn as I’m still getting used to the car. While I expect to be nearer the front this time around, I’m reluctant to set myself specific targets, as anything can happen.”
The weekend’s two 40-minute practice sessions will commence at 12.55 and 13.40 on Friday 17 May, with qualifying later that same day from 16.25.
Rounds 10 and 11 of the competitive single-seater series are scheduled to take place at 11.10 and 16.40 respectively on Saturday (18 May), with Round 12 the following morning (Sunday 19 May) at 10.20.
